The name Calon - Welsh for “heart” - reflects the firm’s guiding principle: investment decisions are always disciplined and rigorous, but never detached from the human realities of running a business.
After years of working across financial, investing, and operating environments, we have seen first-hand how misaligned incentives and short-term mindsets can hold businesses back from their true potential.

Our story
"Calon" is the Welsh word for heart. For Calon’s founder, David Hawkins, it represents the core of every business - its people and the hard work that keeps it beating.
David’s career has taken him from The City of London where he spent a decade at leading investment bank Rothschild & Co to Chief Investment Officer of Trilogy Capital, a private family office in Calgary.
Growing up in Wales the grandson of a coal miner and descendant of four generations of business owners, David has a unique perspective on long term business ownership underpinned by a work ethic and unwavering focus on integrity, resilience and fairness instilled by his family.
Today, Calon Capital Partners aims to bridge the gap between sophisticated global finance and the practical, hands-on reality of running a business. We invest for the long-term in legacies that drive the Canadian economy.
